Hi! I'm Aurooba Ahmed

Watch me build a mini course on WordPress Block UI Design in 24 hours

Published 12 months ago • 1 min read

Hallo!

It's been a while since I've been in your inbox. But I'm starting to slowly create content again, and I wanted to be sure of my consistency before I committed to writing newsletters.

I'm popping into your inbox today to share some fun news!

I'm creating a course in 24 hours!

So the waiting period is going to be..at most a day! I started the challenge yesterday night as a way to get out of my funk around creating a video course (which I committed to last year) by giving myself exactly 24 hours to create and launch a mini course on a topic that I've been thinking about for a little while.

The course is currently planned as a series of 9 videos, all totalling one hour of content, so you can sit down and take the course and get value out of it in one or two sitting, perhaps while you eat lunch. :)

I got the idea from another mini course I once saw around the web and from the "Lunch n Learns" that happen at my spouses's company.

What's the course about?

The course walks you through all the considerations you should take into account for the editing experience when creating a custom block for the WordPress block editor. More than ever, because of the way the Block Editor works, it's increasingly important that when we develop new functionality or designs, we care about not only the frontend final result, but also the content editing experience.

Most developers are not UI/UX designers, but we are creating/extending the interface in the Block Editor every time we create a custom block. And how that experience works is very important because it affects your user's ability to use your block effectively.

And if the editing experience of your blocks is not great but is surrounded by Core blocks and other blocks that are easy to use, imagine how frustrating that might be for the user.

So, this course provides you with the guidelines and considerations to keep in mind so you can make blocks with a better editing experience – which are just better blocks.

Building in public

Not only am I only giving myself 24 hours to build this, I'm doing it in public with updates every couple hours!

If that interests you, click through to the blog post to learn more and see the updates from last night.

I'll email once the course is live and available for purchase, but if you want to be one of the first folks to hear about it, click this link and I'll make sure you hear about it first (this will only work if you are subscribed the mailing list already!) (I might do pre-orders with a bonus, but I haven't decided yet).

Hit reply if you have any questions. :)
